Yola çıkmadan iki gün önce Celal Bayar’a şunları söylemişti: “Benim, kırk asırlık Türk yurdu, Hatay esir kalamaz dediğimi unutmuş olanlar olabilir. Ama ben unutmadım, unutamam,
sen de unutamazsın”.

Kuzu var mı?
After little more than three months in this charming country we caught all the important fiests. Starting with Ramazan, following Şeker Bayram, Republic day and lately finished Kurban Bayram, we could see how the Turkish celebrate their holidays. This was because everytime we were lucky to be invited to some household. For the last mentioned holiday we made a plan to see our friend in Samsun with a short stop in Kayseri. |

On Wednesday morning, after packing our luggage we accidentally saw a weather forecast on TV, which completely changed our plans. Comparing 10 degrees in Kayseri with 22 § C in Antalya made us going to the west! We wanted our trip to be more adventurous so we started to hitch-hike directly from our house in Soli. People on the road, like always, were very friendly so we didn´t have any problems with using this kind of transport. It is also almost a rule that none of the drivers can speak English so we were also taking a Turkish lessons in every car! After simple questions to the people driving we were curious about Bayram too. Our question „Kuzu var mı?“ became the official motto of the trip. All the time we had a good mood and the road was passing quickly. After Anamur we stopped a truck that took us directly to our final stop. |

Antalya was different, but too much, it didn´t seem to us to be Turkey any more. All the shops with their English, Russian or German insriptions, waiters also using various languages and luxurious hotels reminded us top European holiday destinations. We made a boat trip and bought some presents for our relatives. Later, we were invited for a coffee by a man who only heard us in the street speaking English and was intersted in us. Antalya´s night was very pleasant, with all the lights and a bottle of good wine. Despite great weather, after two days we decided to find less overcrowded place. We managed to do it in Belek. On our way there, our driver invited us to his house to taste Bayram „kuzu“ and we had again a great time in a hospitable family. That evening we found a guest-house for a good price and spent a night there. Our flatmate from the village near Ulukışla wanted to host us next day, but something went wrong and he couldn´t do that, that´s why we spent one more night in Belek. Muhammer, the house owner, was very nice to us, preparing tea and coffee all the time. We also tried the sea, swimming at the end of November was really funny. We spent our last evening with Muhammer´s family, playing with his little son and speaking about hard business in the time of crisis. On Sunday morning we started a journey back home. Short stop in Alanya and another truck driver, who was so kind to take three tired hitch-hikers to his car. After passing really adrenaline way copying the Mediterranean coast we finally came to our flat in Mezitli. And Bayram was over... |
