Yola çıkmadan iki gün önce Celal Bayar’a şunları söylemişti: “Benim, kırk asırlık Türk yurdu, Hatay esir kalamaz dediğimi unutmuş olanlar olabilir. Ama ben unutmadım, unutamam,
sen de unutamazsın”.

Our first Turkish düğün

A wedding is always something special which can meet us only a few times in our life. We usually attend them, when our close kins or friends choose to submit their relationship officialy. That´s why we were very surprised after a school lesson, when our classmate Ömer wrote on the board an invitation for his wedding. Although we have known him for not a long time, he invited us like we had been his friends for years!
So, on Monday (very unusal day) 2th, instead of going to the lesson, we met our mates in the campus and got on the „wedding bus“. We had been thinking for a few days what to wear. We had fear that we would not be dressed properly for such an event, but finally we were lucky to see the others had only casual clothes.

We had fun from very beginning when Fatih started to speak English! We also met Inga, Erasmus student from Lithuania and eagerly discussed about our lives in Turkey. The weather was very bad, but as we say in Slovakia, rain on our wedding day brings luck. Ömer and his partner Tuba didn´t have a classical ceremony. As they told us later, it was a top secret marked wedding, maybe therefore it was so frank. There were no relatives only friends, none of the guests had formal behavior, there wasn´t any homemade cakes, etc. Despite the fact, it was evident they married because they really wished. When they both signed the official document and said Evet, we started to clap our hands and we were really amazed how happy they were.

After tasty iskender it stopped raining. Newlyweds had left and we went home to prepare ourselves for the evening party. Before that we made a stop at Derya´s flat and had a nice conversation with friends while drinking tea. We arrived to the party a little bit later and ordered some drinks. Our mates had already been on the dancefloor in the round. We were enjoying, eating, drinking, observing the guests dancing, cause we were too shy to join them in front of live music. The band was playing only Turkish songs and we liked that almost everybody was dancing, even the people who usually sit in the class in silence. We also met some people we didn´t know before and had a pleasant chat. It was before midnight, when we finished and said one more thanks to happy couple.
No rich celebration, no rich gifts were needed, just normal simple meeting of friends, who were celebrating that two people in love wants to stay together and if Allah gives, forever! Amen.
